On Saturday morning, a tragic incident occurred at the Likoni ferry, where a saloon car with an unknown number of occupants drove off the ramp and plunged into the Indian Ocean.
According to the Kenya Ferry Services, the motorist driving the car, whose registration number plate has not yet been established, drove at high speed onto the ramp despite being flagged by controllers and efforts to slow him down.
Recovery operations are currently underway, with the Kenya Ferry Services, Kenya Navy, Kenya Police, and other multi-agencies involved in the rescue efforts.
Kenya Ferry Services released a statement, saying, "The occupants in the car have not yet been established. KFS responded immediately, together with the Kenya Navy, Kenya Police and other multi-agencies."
Additionally, KFS expressed their condolences to the family and friends of the lost lives, stating, "Our heart, thoughts, and prayers go to the family and friends of the lost lives. We will keep updated on the progress of the recovery,"
This incident comes just three months after a similar tragedy occurred at the Likoni ferry, where Mariam Kighenda, 35, and her four-year-old daughter Amanda Mutheu died after their car slid from the rear of MV Harambee.
