On December 6, 2019, Governor Mike Sonko was arrested by the EACC in Voi, sparking a heartbreak for his family, including his daughter Saumu Mbuvi.
According to reports, Sonko was arrested while on his way to Mombasa and was later taken to Nairobi.
His daughter Saumu took to Instagram to share her emotions, posting a picture of her and her father smiling together, followed by a picture of her crying and pleading for her father's release.
It is alleged that Sonko and other officials in Nairobi County have been involved in the misappropriation of KSh 357M of public funds.
Before his arrest, Sonko had sparked controversy after posting pictures of his luxurious office, which was decorated with gold.
Many Kenyans criticized him for living a lavish lifestyle while the country's citizens struggle to access basic necessities like food.
