On December 6, 2019, Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko's arrest sent shockwaves through the city, leaving a trail of questions in its wake.

As the seat of power and economy, Nairobi has been brought to its knees under Sonko's farcical regime, where all rules have been thrown out of the window and bedlam has been institutionalized.

With the governor's departure, a constitutional conundrum has been created, leaving a vacuum in the Office of the Governor.

According to the Constitution, in the absence of the governor, the deputy takes over, but in Nairobi County, there is no deputy governor.

The Speaker of the County Assembly, Beatrice Elachi, is not sitting pretty, having been embroiled in a recent court ruling and power struggle with the MCAs.

Essentially, Nairobi County is staring at a major crisis, with the city's services, including garbage collection, sewer systems, and infrastructure, having collapsed.

As Nairobians reflect on the current state of the city, they must answer the question: what did they expect when they elected Sonko, a person with recorded evidence of crime and a history of bullying?

Mr Sonko's arrest should create the urgency among the city residents to rethink their county and its leadership.
