On December 6, 2019, a devastating building collapse occurred in Tassia Estate, Embakasi East, Nairobi, leaving several people feared trapped under the rubble.
A six-story residential building, housing 22 families, came crashing down at around 8 am, with tens of occupants feared trapped under the debris.
Nairobi Police Commander Philip Ndolo confirmed the incident, stating that a rescue operation was underway to save those trapped.
Public Works Principal Secretary Gordon Kihalangwa, who visited the scene, reported that several occupants had been rescued by noon.
The cause of the building's collapse remains unclear, but it is suspected that soggy soil due to heavy rains could have contributed to the accident.
