Published on December 6, 2019, a six-storey building in Tassia Estate, Embakasi East, Nairobi county, collapsed, resulting in the deaths of at least two people.
The Kenya Red Cross confirmed that 11 people were rescued from the rubble and are receiving medical treatment.
Nairobi Regional Commissioner Wilson Njenga led a multi-agency team, including the Kenya Defence Forces and the National Disaster Management Unit, in the rescue operations.
According to Njenga, preliminary investigations indicated that the building collapsed at 8am on Friday due to structural defects.
The Kenya Red Cross has set up a tent at the scene to provide psychosocial support services and a tracing desk to help establish the number of people still trapped inside.
However, the owner of the residential flat, who was expected to provide tenancy records, remains untraced.
