On December 6, 2019, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) announced that Chelsea's transfer ban had been reduced from two windows to one, allowing the club to sign new players in January 2020.

The decision came after Chelsea appealed FIFA's two-window ban, which was imposed in February 2019 for breaching article 19 of its regulations on the status and transfer of players (RSTP) and article 18 concerning third-party influence.

According to the CAS, Chelsea was found to have committed 150 breaches of regulations, which were deemed 'inexcusable' by the appeals committee.

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard, whose side sits fourth in the Premier League, will now be able to bolster his ranks in January, with the club's fine reduced from 600,000 Swiss Francs to 300,000 Swiss Francs.

Chelsea's appeal to the CAS was heard last month, and the club's fine was cut in half, while the ban was reduced from two windows to one, which the club had already served in the summer of 2019.

Speaking ahead of Chelsea's 2-1 win over Aston Villa, Lampard revealed that a decision over their appeal was imminent, saying 'Very soon I believe, days I think.'
