Apple's 2020 iPhone Lineup and Future Portless Flagship ¶
Apple is set to unveil five new iPhones in 2020, according to Ming Chi-Kuo, a renowned Apple analyst with a good track record of leaks. This comes as no surprise, given the company's tradition of releasing multiple iPhone models each year.
As reported by 9to5Mac, Kuo's research note suggests that Apple will release four iPhone 12 variants in the second half of 2020, following the release of an iPhone SE 2 in the first half. The SE 2 is expected to have a design similar to the 4.7-inch iPhone 8, with updated internal specs, including a newer A13 chipset and 3GB of RAM.
The four iPhone 12 models will include a 5.4-inch phone with two rear cameras, a 6.1-inch phone with two rear cameras, a 6.1-inch phone with three rear cameras, and a 6.7-inch phone with three rear cameras. All of these phones will feature OLED screens and support 5G.
Apple's 2020 flagship is also rumored to include a more sophisticated three-dimensional camera system, with new technology never seen before. For more information on the camera, read our previous article here.
Looking ahead to 2021, Kuo notes that Apple's flagship iPhone will not have a Lightning port. Instead, the company will rely on an entirely wireless charging experience. This decision has sparked controversy, with many users expressing their thoughts on Twitter.
Us: You gonna keep that lightning port forever? Apple: Don't make me Us: Maybe it's time to move on Apple: You don't know what you're doing Us: Seriously USB-C is the future Apple: I'll do it Us: Wait what Apple: https://t.co/NSwwvKGe0M — Marques Brownlee (@MKBHD) December 5, 2019
As Dieter Bohn writes, "Apple apparently hates the idea of an open interconnect on the iPhone so much that it would rather give you NOTHING than give you USB-C."
