The Nakuru County Assembly has approved a Sh373 million supplementary budget for the financial year 2019/2020, a significant increase from the initial Sh300 million budget.

The additional funding will be used to hire 283 health workers on contract, purchase drugs, and recruit 304 pre-primary teachers and 55 youth instructors.

Sh23 million will be allocated to hire casual workers in the Infrastructure and Water, Environment, Energy and Natural Resources departments.

The supplementary budget received a boost from various donor grants, including Sh10 million from the Danish Development Agency, Sh30 million from the Kenya Devolution Support Program, and Sh210 million from the World Bank National Agricultural and Rural inclusive Growth Projects.

Other contributors to the supplementary budget include the Agricultural Sector Development Support Projects (Sh3 million), Conditional Fund- Kenya Urban Support Projects (Sh9 million), and World Bank Health Services Universal care Conditional allocation (Sh37 million).

The County Revenue Allocation Equitable share also contributed Sh215 million to the supplementary budget.

Due to the increased number of workers set to retire, compensation to employees has been reduced to Sh194 million.

Development projects in the county will receive an additional Sh376 million, with Sh25 million allocated for the expansion of Njoro Health Centre.

Other development projects include the construction of markets in Kamara (Sh15 million), Kinamba (Sh10 million), and Kuresoi North (Sh5 million).

The governor's office will receive an additional Sh6.5 million for foreign travel and research, while the Public Service, Training and Devolution department will transfer Sh15 million from motor vehicle allocation to medical insurance.

Sh22 million will be used to lay water pipes in Kiamunyi and Maiella Ward, addressing concerns raised by MCAs over the stalled Boresha Bara bara programme.
