On December 6, 2019, Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko was arrested in Voi and airlifted back to Nairobi, sparking a dramatic and publicized arrest.
According to reports, the arrest was ordered by the Director of Public Prosecution Noordin Haji, who had issued a statement detailing the reasons for Sonko's arrest.
However, Sonko has denied the allegations, stating that he is 'more than ready' for the court process and that he has the facts to dismantle the 'choreographed lies' against him.
He also accused the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) of playing politics and trying to intimidate him.
Despite the drama surrounding his arrest, Sonko has vowed to continue his quest for justice, particularly in the case of land grabbing, which he claims the EACC is trying to cover up.
He has also ordered an investigation into a collapsed building in Tasia area and has assured his supporters and the public that he will not be intimidated and will fight the charges against him.
