Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko's dramatic arrest in Voi on December 6, 2019, marked the beginning of a tumultuous journey that would see him airlifted to Nairobi and subsequently driven to the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission offices.
According to reports, DPP Noordin Haji had ordered Sonko's arrest early that morning, citing sufficient evidence to charge him.
Footage on social media shows Sonko being surrounded by more than 10 officers during the arrest, with some of his guards unclear in the clip.
As the situation unfolded, Sonko was airlifted to Nairobi and driven to the EACC headquarters, where he was expected to be arraigned.
Twitter user @KTNNewsKE captured the moment, tweeting, 'Happening Now: Mike Sonko being driven from Wilson Airport. The Nairobi governor has been arrested over graft charges and is expected to be arraigned today.'
Later that day, Nyakundi News (@NyakundiNews) shared a photo of Sonko arriving at the EACC HQs, captioning it, 'Sonko arrives at EACC HQs.'
