On December 10, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov is set to visit Washington, marking his first official visit to the US capital in over three years.
The visit comes after a highly publicized meeting between Lavrov and then-US President Donald Trump in the Oval Office in May 2017, which was followed by allegations that Trump divulged classified intelligence.
Photographs from the meeting showed Lavrov, Trump, and then-Russian envoy to Washington Sergei Kislyak sharing a laugh, sparking controversy at the time.
Trump was later cleared of suspicions of collusion with Russia in a long-running probe, which concluded that Moscow attempted to influence the 2016 US election in Trump's favor.
