On December 6, 2019, a dramatic scene unfolded at Ikanga airstrip in Voi, Taita Taveta County, as Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko clashed with police officers.

According to eyewitness accounts, Sonko refused to board a police chopper that had arrived to airlift him to Nairobi, leading to a scuffle with the officers.

A video of the incident has since emerged online, leaving many Kenyans stunned.

As seen in the video, Sonko engaged in a fistfight with the police officers who were escorting him to the waiting chopper.

One of the junior officers involved in the operation described the scene as 'very complicated' but ultimately successful.

'The Governor is very violent, he has seriously beaten one of us who were escorting him to the chopper,' the officer said.

Despite the altercation, Sonko was later bundled into the chopper and airlifted to Nairobi.
