Rescue efforts are underway in Nairobi's Tassia Estate after a building collapsed on Friday morning, trapping several people under the rubble.
At least 17 people have been rescued and taken to nearby hospitals for medical attention, but rescue workers believe more people are still trapped and in need of assistance.
Public Works Principal Secretary Gordon Kihalangwa, who visited the scene, said the ill-fated block had 46 residential houses.
However, the owner of the residential flat, Mama Kanyoni, was missing from the scene and was expected to provide tenancy records.
Search and rescue operations have been hampered by the high number of onlookers and poor road conditions, made worse by heavy rains pounding the city and country.
Emergency and rescue workers also faced challenges reaching the scene due to the flooded roads and underground water.
"But we can hear a baby crying in there," said one of the Red Cross volunteers, as emergency and rescue teams stepped up efforts to rescue those still trapped.
