Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has been arrested in Voi in connection with corruption and money laundering charges.

The arrest comes after the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Noordin Haji, said they have enough evidence to prosecute Sonko.

Sonko's daughter, Saumu Mbuvi, took to social media to share a photo of herself and her dad, accompanied by a caption of prayer emojis.

Kenyans have reacted to the news of Sonko's arrest, with some calling for him to answer for his alleged misdeeds.

Cityinthesun said, 'Sonko deliberately refused to appoint a deputy governor thinking that would shield him from arrest, because Nairobi would be left without a boss.'

He added, 'He forgot one thing, DPP Noordin Haji can't be blackmailed, does not play games and refuses to take hostages. See your life now Sonko!'

Another Twitter user, @BeingCharlie, said, 'Finally! Mike Sonko should answer for his mischief! So much chest thumping while his government loses BILLIONs to cartels of which he is a member.'

Photos of Voi Police Station before Sonko was flown to Nairobi have also been shared.
