Heavy rains have been pounding Nairobi and other parts of the country, with the meteorological department warning of persistent rainfall until the end of December.
On December 6, 2019, a six-storey building in Nairobi's Tassia estate collapsed, trapping scores of people under rubble.
At least 17 people have been rescued and taken to nearby hospitals by responders from City Hall and the Kenya Red Cross Society.

President Uhuru Kenyatta had ordered an audit in 2016, which concluded that buildings collapse due to poor quality of concrete, lack of proper foundation, and use of substandard building stones.
