On December 6, 2019, the community of Naivasha came together to bid farewell to 16-year-old Valerian Njeri, who was tragically stabbed and killed by a 17-year-old classmate.

Speakers at the emotional ceremony, including Area MCA John Njuguna, called for action against youth misbehavior, pointing to the use of drugs and addiction to mobile phones as contributing factors to the incident.

According to postmortem reports, Njeri died as a result of excessive bleeding and trauma to the head after being hit with a blunt object.

Area MCA John Njuguna emphasized the need for leaders to start programs that will have a positive impact on young people, especially teenagers, and for parents to reevaluate how they engage with their children.

Former MCA Wanyoike Wanango called for the reintroduction of caning in institutions of learning, stating that the current liberal age group thinks they can do anything and get away with it.
