On September 3, 2019, Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko was questioned by the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission (EACC) at their headquarters in Nairobi.
Following a comprehensive investigation by the EACC, Director of Public Prosecution Noordin Haji ordered the arrest of Governor Sonko and several county employees on December 6, 2019, stating that there was sufficient evidence to warrant prosecution.
Despite the summons and the subsequent arrest order, Governor Sonko has maintained his innocence and has even accused the EACC of being compromised.
However, in a statement recorded at the EACC headquarters, Governor Sonko reiterated his commitment to the rule of law and stated that he would step aside if found to have a case to answer.
He also vowed to monitor the projects he initiated closely during his absence from office, despite the allegations of corruption.
