On December 6, 2019, Trade and Cooperatives Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya announced that Kenya is in talks with 44 African countries to establish a new Free Trade Area.

The proposed agreement, which is expected to be signed by July 2020, will grant Kenya's exports duty-free access to a market of over 1 billion consumers.

According to Munya, bilateral agreements with East African Community members have already brought on board 150 million consumers, while trade agreements with the United States, such as the Africa Growth Opportunity Act (AGOA), will provide Kenyan products with duty-free access to the American market.

As a member of the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA), Kenya has access to a market of 500 million potential customers, presenting new opportunities for the country's agricultural and industrial products.
