On December 6, 2019, the Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji ordered the arrest of Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko in connection with corruption allegations.
According to the DPP, Sonko is accused of misappropriating public funds totaling Sh357 million.
Prosecutors will charge Sonko with economic crimes and conflict of interest in court.
The DPP stated that investigators faced frustration and intimidation during the probe, citing numerous inconsistencies.
He warned Sonko's supporters against causing chaos, emphasizing that such behavior will not be tolerated.
Investigations into the matter began in October, following recommendations by the Public Procurement Regulatory Authority.
