Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko has been arrested in Voi, marking a significant development in the ongoing graft investigations against him.

According to reports, Sonko is being transported from Voi to Nairobi in a police chopper, which is expected to land at Wilson Airport within the next 30 minutes.

He will then be taken to the Integrity Centre for processing, where he will face prosecution over graft allegations.

The arrest comes after Director of Public Prosecution Noordin Haji ordered the arrest of Sonko, citing sufficient evidence to warrant prosecution.

Speaking during a press conference, Noordin Haji stated:

‘The investigations by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission and upon receiving an independently investigated file, I have found enough evidence to warrant prosecution. I have therefore ordered for the immediate arrest of Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko and other persons.'

Noordin Haji also highlighted the challenges faced during the investigations, citing intimidation tactics employed by Sonko to obstruct the process.

‘The investigations into this case have not been easy due to the constant efforts by the accused to obstruct investigations by employing intimidation tactics.

In addition to using goons to threaten officials.'

With Sonko's arrest, it appears he will spend the weekend in police custody.
