On December 6, 2019, a harrowing incident unfolded along Emaili – Ukia Road when a matatu carrying 44 passengers, including 40 university students and 4 staff, was swept away by the waters of River Kyamela.

The vehicle, which had diverted from the Mombasa – Nairobi Highway to avoid a snarl-up following an accident, was ferrying students and staff from Lukenya University to Nairobi.

Fortunately, all passengers are safe, according to Makueni County Police Commander Joseph Napeiyan.
