Published on December 6, 2019, Kajiado County has been implementing austerity measures to reduce expenses.

One such measure is the sharing of hotel rooms by county executives, including Governor Joseph ole Lenku, who recently shared a room with two of his cabinet members, Jeremiah Ncharo and Jacob Sampke.

The austerity measures were introduced to reduce costs, with executives who have their accommodation paid for by the county treasury forfeiting 75% of their daily allowance.

According to the 2019/20 Kajiado County budget, Sh1.21 billion was committed towards payment of pending bills, out of a total budget of Sh9.08 billion.

As part of the austerity measures, county executives who are entitled to a daily allowance of Sh10,000 when away on official duties will now receive Sh2,500 a day when the county foots the accommodation bill.
