On December 6, 2019, a devastating incident occurred in Nairobi's Tassia estate when a six-storey building collapsed, trapping several people inside.

According to reports, the building came crumbling down at around 9am, with rescue operations immediately underway.

Local administrators and residents collaborated to evacuate those trapped in the building, with a Catholic church rescue team of 30 led by Orwa David, a building technologist, confirming one person had died and 10 others were fighting for their lives at Bristol Park hospital and other health centres within Tassia.

It is not yet clear how many people were in the building at the time of the collapse, but it is believed to have been under construction.

The incident comes just months after a classroom collapsed at Ngong area in September 2019, killing eight pupils.

Rescue teams from Nairobi county were on the scene, working to rescue those trapped in the rubble.
