With over 12 years of experience working in Taiwan, Thailand, Dubai, South Sudan, Rwanda, and Kenya, Esther Mukami is an internationally certified reflexologist who has made a name for herself in the industry.
Her journey began in 2001 when she became aware of how the body responds to different types of therapy. She started by studying beauty therapy at Aphrodite Beauty Institute and Timeless Beauty College, and then went on to study human anatomy and physiology at the Watpo Traditional Medical School in Thailand.
After completing her studies, Mukami attended the Rwo-Shr International Institute in Taiwan, where she specialized in nerves and muscles therapy. Her passion for beauty and her desire to help others led her to pursue a career in reflexology.
Today, Mukami runs a successful wellness clinic in Kenya, which she started three years ago. Despite facing some tough moments, her team and she have pushed back impressively, and they now have several loyal clients who value their services.
According to Mukami, a wellness clinic is a viable business, especially in an age where many individuals have cultivated a sedentary lifestyle and eat unhealthy diets. She plans to expand her clinic and have a presence in all counties, with the ultimate goal of becoming industry giants in East Africa.
Mukami's journey has not been without its challenges. Creating awareness about reflexology and distinguishing it from ordinary foot massage is one of the biggest challenges she faces. Additionally, there are many quacks masquerading as reflexologists, which dents the reputation of the industry.
Despite these challenges, Mukami remains passionate about her work and is committed to helping others. Her advice to young people who aspire to become reflexologists is to get some background knowledge on beauty therapy, study human anatomy, and polish their soft skills. With hard work and dedication, anyone can succeed in this field.
