On 4th December 2019, Bidco Land O'Lakes, a joint venture between Bidco Africa and Land O'Lakes Inc., officially opened its new state-of-the-art animal manufacturing feed plant in Nakuru.
Launched in 2016, Bidco Land O'Lakes is a partnership between East Africa's leading manufacturer of fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG), Bidco Africa, and one of America's largest farmer-owned cooperatives, Land O'Lakes Inc.
Boost for Kenyan Livestock Farmers ¶
The new plant, which has seen an investment of $12 million (Ksh1.2 billion), aims to produce over 28 metric tonnes per hour of animal nutrition products.
Speaking at the official opening, Cabinet Secretary of Industry, Trade and Cooperatives, Mr Peter Munya, welcomed the new venture.
According to Mr Vimal Shah, Chairman of Bidco Africa, the plant will increase the country's manufacturing capacity by 160,000 metric tonnes per annum, empowering farmers and agribusinesses to become more competitive in the market.
Mr Shah also highlighted the importance of the venture in addressing climate change, stating that farmers in Kenya have welcomed the adoption of zero-grazing practices.
Executive Vice President of Land O'Lakes, Inc, Mr Dave Hoogmoed, emphasized the company's commitment to providing Kenyan farmers with the latest tools and technologies to advance their livelihoods.
The plant will produce a range of products, including the Bidco Feeds brand and new Land O'Lakes Advanced Nutrition products, targeting progressive livestock producers.
