On December 6, 2019, the Private Security Regulatory Authority (PSRA) rolled out a new training guide for the more than 500,000 members of the private security sector. The move aims to address challenges in the sector and ensure that private security guards are well-trained and equipped to handle any form of threat.

According to PSRA CEO Fazul Mohamed, the guards will be trained on various aspects of the security industry, including the legal and regulatory framework, labour laws, risks threats and hazards, and basic security procedures. The training will also cover security equipment and animals, kitting and turnout, report writing, counter-terrorism, health and safety, emergency preparedness, ethics and integrity, and effective communication.

PSRA has mandated that all private security providers undergo annual mandatory training accredited by the authority. The training is part of the requirements of the Private Security Regulations Act of 2016. The launch of the training guide was presided over by Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i at the Kenya School of Government in Lower Kabete, Nairobi.
