Real Madrid's highly anticipated match against Barcelona in La Liga has taken a hit with Eden Hazard ruled out due to a fractured ankle.

Eden Hazard, 28, was subbed off in Real Madrid's Champions League clash against Paris Saint-Germain after a rash challenge from international teammate Thomas Meunier.

According to Real Madrid, tests revealed a small fracture on Hazard's ankle, which validates the fact that he could miss El Clasico.

A statement from the Spanish giants said: "Following tests carried out on our player, Eden Hazard, by Real Madrid's medical department, the development of the perimalleolar bruising in his right leg has seen him diagnosed with an incomplete external microfracture in the aforementioned area."

"His recovery will continue to be assessed," the statement added.

Real Madrid and Barcelona are joint-top on La Liga but the champions are ahead on goal-difference.

Eden Hazard will miss the upcoming December 18, El Clasico showdown.
