MKU's 17th Graduation Ceremony: Thousands to Graduate Under Tight Security

Mount Kenya University (MKU) is gearing up to hold its 17th graduation ceremony on Friday at the MKU graduation pavilion in Happy Valley, with over 5,000 students expected to graduate.

According to MKU Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic Research Affairs, Dr. Bibianne Waiganjo, the ceremony will see a total of 5,169 graduates awarded certificates, diplomas, and conferred degrees.

Among the graduates, 119 will be conferred with master's degrees, while 3,844 will be awarded bachelor's degrees. The breakdown of the graduates shows that 2,738 are male, while 2,431 are female.

The school of education has the highest number of graduates, with 2,438, followed by the school of business and economics with 1,175.

Security has been tightened in Thika and its environs ahead of the ceremony, with security officers setting up a 24-hour security operation to ensure the event goes smoothly.

Thika East Assistant County Commissioner Onesmus Muriuki, who is the chairman of the graduation security committee, assured that his team will ensure the ceremony goes as planned.

Event operation commander Michael Mwaura, who is also Thika East Sub-County police commander, urged motorists to ensure their vehicles are properly locked to avoid any inconvenience.
