On November 6, 1999, a police officer in Kenya went on a shooting spree, killing 10 people in the town of Siakago in Embu County.
The officer, identified as Peter Karanja, was reportedly angry after his girlfriend accused him of infecting her with HIV.
According to court records, Karanja shot and killed three people at a bar called Shrek Bar before moving on to another bar, where he shot and killed four more people.
Two other police officers who were with Karanja at the time were also shot, but survived.
Karanja was arrested and charged with the murders, and on December 5, 2019, he was sentenced to 20 years in prison.
The court found Karanja guilty of killing Anthony Mwaniki, Frida Ng'endo, Kenwin Muthomi, Agostino Kinyua, George Ng'ang'a, Domisiano Muchira, Ephantus Munyi, Rachel Muthoni, Wilfred Gitonga, and Fredrick Okwako.
The case drew widespread attention in Kenya, with many calling for justice for the victims and their families.
