Published on December 5, 2019, MMUST RFC will be looking to extend their unbeaten run in the 2019-2020 KRU Championship when they host leaders Strathmore Leos at MMUST Grounds in Kakamega on Saturday.
With six victories already under their belt, MMUST RFC has established themselves as a force to be reckoned with in the championship, having beaten Egerton Wasps, United States International University (USIU RFC), Kisii, Mean Machine, University of Eldoret, and Eldoret RFC.
MMUST RFC captain Samuel Mbeche expressed confidence in his team's ability to deliver a win, stating that they have been training well and are focused on registering a bonus win to reduce the four-point gap between them and Strathmore Leos.
“Six victories in a row is a good start for us and I have trust in the team that they will deliver another important victory today. We are working on catching up with Strathmore who are four points ahead and therefore we are going for a bonus win,” Mbeche said.
MMUST RFC's unbeaten streak has been impressive, with wins against Pirates, USIU, Mombasa, Catholic Monks, Mean Machine, and Northern Suburbs. Mbeche believes that if they maintain their discipline and clinical play, they will emerge victorious against Strathmore Leos.
“Last season we struggled a lot during big matches because we were not disciplined. We were giving away many fouls and penalties but this year we have improved. All we need is to take our chances, defend well and pin them in their half to prevent them from playing,” Mbeche added.
