On December 5, 2019, Visa International recognized Naivas as the top retailer for card transactions in Kenya, a testament to the growing demand for cashless payments in the country.

Naivas, with its 58 outlets and an estimated 1,320 card swiping machines, has seen a significant shift in its transactions, with cashless payments now accounting for over 39% of all its transactions.

Merchants like Naivas pay a fee to Visa and its partner banks each time a customer uses a card at the point of sale, a cost that the retailer is willing to incur in order to provide its customers with a seamless and speedy payment experience.

"Kenyans increasingly prefer to use card and mobile payments for their purchases, necessitating that we move with the times and deliver seamless, speedy payment platforms that ensure they spend the least time at the till," said Naivas chief commercial officer Willy Kimani.

Naivas is one of the firms that have tapped into the growing demand for Visa-based payments, which are considered more secure than cash payments. The recognition comes at the back of increased footprint by the retailer, which recently opened its 58th branch in Embu.
