On December 5, 2019, Jane Mukuhi Wahito, daughter of the late billionaire and Cabinet Minister Njenga Karume, was laid to rest in Israel, a decision she had made herself before her passing due to cancer of the bile duct.
According to family members, Jane had chosen to be buried in Israel to avoid a scenario similar to what had happened two months prior when her niece, Michelle Karume, 26, a granddaughter of the late Karume, died in the US in September after a heartbreaking appeal for funds to treat her cancer.
Michelle's tragic fate was a stark reminder of the family's ongoing inheritance battle for Njenga Karume's vast estate, estimated at Sh17.8 billion in his will and testament.
While the burial expenses in Israel were estimated to be around Sh700,000, only a select few, including Jane's three children, her brother, sister, a niece, and nephew, were likely to attend.
However, another family member disputed the reason behind Jane's burial in Israel, stating that it was not due to lack of funds but rather the delay by the board of trustees to release the money.
