On November 26th, 54-year-old Paul Topf, a retired German soldier, went missing after being taken from his home in Lungalunga, Kwale County. His wife, Neema Nyawira, a Kenyan national, has been questioned by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
According to officials, the four men and a woman who took Topf from his home were not police officers. The signal of Topf's mobile phone was last detected in Mwambao Bati village, within Shimoni.
Neema Nyawira has provided conflicting accounts of her husband's disappearance. Initially, she claimed that he was being detained by immigration officials in Nairobi. However, on Tuesday, she stated that she had received information from her sister-in-law in Germany that Topf had been deported back to Germany and was safe.
Topf, who moved to Kenya in 2012, married Nyawira and has a seven-year-old daughter with her. Investigations into his disappearance are ongoing, led by Kwale County Police Commander Joseph Nthenge.
