On December 5, 2019, members of the Isahakia community in Naivasha, Kenya, clashed with Kenya Wildlife Services (KWS) officers over a 5,000-acre piece of land.
The community, which is the oldest in Naivasha, claimed the land as their ancestral property and presented documents from the National Land Commission (NLC) to support their claim.
Armed with the documents, over 300 demonstrators constructed semi-permanent structures on the land, located off the Nairobi-Nakuru highway.
However, their actions were met with resistance from KWS officers, who arrested some of the demonstrators and brought down the structures.
The land dispute between the Isahakia community and the government has been ongoing for decades.
