Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC) acting managing director Hudson Andambi has been given a temporary reprieve after the KPC board extended his tenure until December 31.

According to a special board meeting held on Monday, the extension was made to ensure a seamless transition at the company.

However, the Senate Committee on Energy was not convinced by the explanation and turned away Mr. Andambi, stating that only the substantive managing director could answer questions and make long-term commitments on behalf of KPC.

Mr. Andambi's tenure has been extended for the third time, following similar moves in April and July, as the company seeks to replace Joe Sang who exited last year amidst corruption allegations.

On Friday, Petroleum and Mining Secretary John Munyes had picked Macharia Irungu as KPC's new Managing Director, but the board's decision has put a temporary hold on the appointment.

Mr. Andambi's term was set to expire on December 4, but the extension will allow him to continue leading the company until the end of the year.

Mr. Andambi was quoted by the Senate Committee as saying that the board of directors extended his tenure to ensure a seamless transition.
