On December 4, 2019, the Nairobi City County government doubled parking fees within the central business district from Sh200 to Sh400, effective immediately.
However, the move was met with swift action from the Consumer Federation of Kenya (Cofek), which filed a case against the county government through city lawyer Henry Kurauka.
High Court Judge James Makau has temporarily suspended the implementation of the new parking fees, pending the hearing and determination of the case.
He directed that the case be heard on January 21, 2020.
The judge ruled in favor of Cofek, stating that the city residents would suffer the ripple effects of increased fees, making a prima facie case.
