Published on December 4th, 2019, Jane Mukuhi Wahito, the last-born daughter of the late Kenyan Cabinet minister Njenga Karume, has succumbed to cancer while receiving treatment abroad.

According to sources, Jane passed away on November 27th at 7 pm at a hospital in Israel. Her family has made arrangements for her burial in Bahan Kibbutz, Israel on December 4th, with a memorial service to be held at a later date in Nairobi.

Before her death, Jane expressed a desire to be buried in Israel to avoid the challenges her niece Michelle Karume faced when she passed away in the US in September. Michelle, 26, had been battling cancer and had mounted a fierce inheritance battle for her grandfather's wealth in local courts.

Michelle's case drew public attention when she interrupted a court hearing to appeal for funds to cover her medical expenses. The presiding judge directed the trustees of Karume's estate to provide the required funds, which were estimated to be part of the Sh17.8 billion estate.

According to a family member, Jane's burial expenses in Israel are estimated to be around Sh700,000, with only a small group of family members attending the ceremony.
