On December 4, 2019, Kisumu County Governor Anyang Nyong'o announced that the county would receive a Sh500 million grant from the National Government to construct the Uhuru Business Park Market.
The market is expected to provide safe spaces for trading, boost sales, enhance access to services under one roof, and increase seller-buyer interaction.
The project, which is part of the good returns of the handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga, will also see the construction of a 10,000-unit small traders' centre complete with modern social amenities.
The new business stalls and Juakali sheds will be constructed on 23 acres of land recently handed over to the County Government of Kisumu by the national government.
Over 800 people occupying the land have vacated the premises to pave way for the new market, which is expected to benefit over 10,000 residents.
