On December 4, 2019, Dr Margaret Nyakango was sworn in as the new controller of budget, marking a significant milestone in her career.
Chief Justice David Maraga administered the oath of office at the Supreme Court building, following the National Assembly's approval of her nomination.
Despite concerns about her advanced age, Nyakango's appointment was seen as a testament to her experience and qualifications for the role.
As the new controller of budget, Nyakango is set to oversee the scrutiny of pending bills for 15 counties, amounting to over Ksh 40 billion, to ensure genuine payments and accountability.
The National Assembly has also requested that the office of the controller of budget table quarterly reports on county and national budgets and expenditure for auditing purposes.
