On December 4, 2019, a tragic incident occurred in Thumari village, Kirinyaga County, Kenya, claiming the life of a 15-year-old boy.
Dominic Githinji, who had just sat for his Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examination and was awaiting admission to secondary school, met his untimely demise after accidentally touching an exposed live electric wire in his room.
According to reports, Githinji's lifeless body was discovered by a neighbour who raised the alarm, sending shockwaves throughout the community.
His grandmother, Edith Mugo, was left reeling in shock upon learning of the incident, describing Githinji as a humble and obedient boy.
"I was staying with my grandson who sat this year's KCPE exam and when I heard what happened I almost fainted," she told journalists amid tears.
Assistant Chief Josphine Gitari, who responded to the scene, warned residents against coming into contact with live electric wires, citing the need to avoid such fatal incidents.
Investigations into the incident have been launched, with Kenya Power officials visiting the scene to establish the exact circumstances surrounding Githinji's death.
