Heavy rains pounded Nyandarua County for three days, causing the river Turasha to burst its banks and sweep away eight houses at Gachuo village in Kipipiri.
According to Nyandarua county commissioner Boaz Cherutich, the occupants of the swept houses have been forced to relocate to higher grounds.
Fortunately, no casualties were reported in the incident, but the affected families are now in dire need of necessities such as tents, blankets, and food.
Mr. Cherutich appealed to the public to assist the affected families as they seek a permanent solution to the disaster.
"Heavy rains have for the last three days pounded the area forcing the river to burst its banks. Unfortunately, it swept some houses," he said.
"We call upon people to come and assist the families that have been affected as we look for a permanent solution to this disaster," he added.
