Kenya is bracing for more heavy rains, with the Meteorological Department warning that the wet weather will persist until the weekend.

According to the department's director, David Kigungu, moderate to heavy rainfall is expected to intensify between today and Friday, with the intensity and coverage likely to decrease from Saturday.

The areas most affected by the heavy rains include the Rift Valley region, where Narok, Kajiado, Bomet, Kericho, Nakuru, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Baringo, and West Pokot are expected to experience heavy downpour.

Other areas of concern include Nyanza, where Kisumu, Homa Bay, and Siaya are expected to be hit hard, as well as Western region, where Bungoma, Kakamega, and Busia will experience heavy rains.

Central parts of Kenya, including Meru, Embu, Nyeri, Kiambu, Nyandarua, and Murang'a, are also expected to experience heavy downpour.

The government has designated camps in all affected areas where people can seek refuge until the rains stop, and the public has been asked to be cautious of the rains, which are expected to continue throughout the month of December with occasional breaks.

As of yesterday, at least 132 people had died due to flash floods and landslides, with approximately 330,000 people adversely affected across the country and 17,000 displaced.

Additionally, 11,000 livestock were swept away, and crops of unknown value have been destroyed.
