The High Court has intervened in a dispute over planned parking fees hikes in Nairobi County, temporarily halting the move.
The Consumer Federation of Kenya (COFEK) had objected to the county's plans to double parking fees within the central business district from Ksh.200 to Ksh.400, terming the move as unconstitutional.
According to COFEK's lawyer, Henry Kurauka, the county failed to involve the public in the decision-making process, and the notice period was too short.
The planned hike would have seen owners of private vehicles charged Ksh.7,000 for a seasonal parking ticket of one month, while buses were to be charged Ksh.1,000 per day to park in the city centre.
The matter is set for hearing on January 21, 2020.
