Health experts have long warned about the dangers of fast food, but Kenyans seem to be ignoring the risks, with fried chicken, pizza, and burgers dominating online food orders.

According to a report by Jumia Food Kenya, released on December 4, 2019, fried chicken has been the most popular online food order in Kenya for the last three years.

The report attributes the high demand for chicken to its affordability, with many restaurants lowering their prices to attract more customers.

"For the last three years, chicken has been the most popular with pizza consistently ranking second in terms of popularity," said Shreenal Ruparelia, managing director of Jumia East Africa.

Ms Ruparelia also noted that burgers have become increasingly popular, moving from fifth place in 2017 to third place, as more Kenyans opt for convenience foods over cooking.

"Consumers are starting to value convenience more and more. They are willing to spend a little bit extra to save time and effort," the Jumia Food Index Report 2019 states.
