On Monday evening, a devastating incident occurred in Ndhiwa, where a 13-year-old boy lost his life after being swept away by strong currents while trying to cross River Kuja.
Boaz Odhiambo Ooko, a Class Seven pupil at Radienya Primary School, was among a group of six people who attempted to cross the river using a boat.
According to Area Chief Joseph Otieno Ogur, heavy tides overturned the boat, leaving five people to swim towards the river bank at Manyuru Village, West Kabuoch Location.
Unfortunately, Boaz, who could not swim, was swept away by the strong currents and his body has yet to be retrieved.
Area leaders have urged the government to send divers to assist in retrieving the body, and the search is set to resume on Wednesday.
