On December 4, 2019, the Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup faced a major setback when South Sudan and Democratic Republic of Congo withdrew from the tournament due to logistical challenges.
They joined Ethiopia, who had earlier cited similar reasons for their withdrawal, forcing the reorganization of the groups and fixtures.
As a result, this year's edition of the tournament will feature two groups instead of the initially planned three.
Kenya's Harambee Stars, the defending champions, will now be in Group B alongside Tanzania, Sudan, and Zanzibar.
They will kick off their title defence against Tanzania on Sunday, replacing the earlier scheduled match against minnows Djibouti.
The tournament has also been moved from Jinja to the Lugogo Stadium in Kampala, with Harambee Stars set to leave for Kampala on Friday.
Group A consists of Uganda, Burundi, Eritrea, Somalia, and Djibouti, while Group B comprises Tanzania, Sudan, Kenya, and Zanzibar.
