Published on December 4, 2019, Jane Mukuhi Wahito, daughter of the late Njenga Karume, will be buried in Israel today after passing away from cancer of the bile duct.
According to an advertisement in a local daily, Mukuhi will be buried at Bahan Kibbutz, with an event to celebrate her life scheduled for a later date in Nairobi.
Her family had discussed the matter before her death, with Mukuhi expressing her desire to be buried in Israel to avoid a scenario similar to that of her niece, Michelle Karume, who died in the US in September after a painful appeal for funds to treat her cancer.
Michelle, 26, was a granddaughter of the late Karume and had been battling cancer. Her pleas for funds came against the backdrop of a fierce inheritance battle for her grandfather's wealth in local courts.
The burial expenses in Israel are estimated to be around Sh700,000, with only a few family members likely to attend, including her two sons, daughter, brother, sister, niece, and nephew.
"It was a unanimous decision made by family members, including her children and in-laws, that she be buried in Bahan Kibbutz," said a family member. "We don't want to go through that experience again," they added.
The family member also described Mukuhi as a joyful woman with a deep relationship with God.
