The Value of Your Network ¶
Published on December 4, 2019
As we grow and develop, our social networks play a significant role in shaping our lives and futures. The people we surround ourselves with can either positively or negatively influence our behavior, values, and decisions.
Recently, there have been a series of tragic events involving young people, including a Form Three student who murdered his classmate for turning down his advances. These incidents raise important questions about the impact of our social networks on our lives and the lives of those around us.
Rejection can be painful, but it should not lead to taking someone's life. The school boy who committed this heinous act was struggling with the pressure of his friends and the fear of being mocked for failing to win the girl's love.
It's time to reflect on the company we keep and the conversations we have. Are we surrounding ourselves with people who promote positive values and behaviors, or are we being influenced by those who encourage destructive and hurtful actions?
As we navigate our social networks, we must ask ourselves: What kind of friends do we have? What do we discuss? What brings us together? Are we being influenced by people who promote growth, stability, and emotional well-being, or are we being pulled down by those who encourage negativity and harm?
It's time to take responsibility for the company we keep and the impact it has on our lives and the lives of those around us. By being mindful of our social networks and the conversations we have, we can create a more positive and supportive community that promotes growth, stability, and emotional well-being.
