Raila Meets with Waiguru, Kenyans Skeptical ¶
On Tuesday, December 3, 2019, Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga hosted Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru at his Capitol Hill offices in Nairobi, sparking mixed reactions from Kenyans on social media.
After the meeting, the two leaders issued statements saying they discussed matters related to the handshake and the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).
“Met with Governor Anne Waiguru at Capitol Hill Square and had a discussion on national cohesion and inclusivity,” Raila tweeted.
Waiguru also took to Facebook to share her side of the story, saying: “We deliberated on the spirit of the handshake and its intention to move this nation to a better future through the BBI. A cohesive Nation and one in harmony can never go wrong,”
However, a majority of Kenyans online were not convinced that the two leaders were only discussing the BBI report. Some speculated that they are forging an alliance ahead of the 2022 elections.
