Heavy flooding has ravaged 10 counties in Kenya, affecting over 300,000 people and claiming 132 lives, according to government spokesperson Cyrus Oguna.
Speaking to the media on Tuesday, Oguna emphasized the need for individuals to take initiative in helping flood victims, rather than waiting for the government to act.
"For this month of Christmas, please take it upon yourself to buy your mother a water tank as a Christmas gift, for those who have not done that," Oguna said.
He added that water tanks would enable people to harvest and store rainwater for future use, and appealed to Kenyans of goodwill to provide construction materials to families affected by floods.
The government has dispatched food aid to landslide victims in West Pokot, including 200 bags of rice, 560 bags of beans, and 1,000 bales of fortified food.
